Dr. Professor Volodymyr Platonov

Dr. Volodymyr PLATONOV is a leading scientist in the field of theory and practice of sport science. His academic career is marked with scientific degrees of Doctor of Science in Pedagogy (1979), Professor (1980), Academician of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (1992); Professor Emeritus of NUUPES (1999). Since 1986 he is Rector of National University of Ukraine on Physical Education and Sports. Alongside educational and research activities Dr. Platonov is an author of more than 500 publications including over 70 books issued in the USSR, Russia, Ukraine, Spain, Italy, France, Argentina, Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, China, Bulgaria, Poland, Japan, etc. devoted to different aspects of physical preparation and athlete training, among which there are Modern Athlete Training (1980), Theory and Methods of Athlete Training (1984), Preparation of Elite Athletes (1986), Theory of Sports (1987), Physical Preparation (1992), Athlete in Different Climate-Geography Environments (1996), General Theory of Athlete Preparation in Olympic Sports (1997), Professional Sports (2000), System of Athlete Preparation in Olympic Sports (2004, 2005), Encyclopedia of Olympic Sports in 5 volumes (2004), etc. He is an active member of National council on physical culture and sport under the President of Ukraine (2006 – up now); Head of scientific-coordination council in the field of physical culture and sport affiliated to the Ministry of Ukraine on Family, Youth and Sport (2005 – up now); permanent representative of Ukraine in the UNO Committee on Fight Against Apartheid (1988-1991); Vice-president (1991-1998), first Vice-president (1998-2002) of National Olympic Committee of Ukraine; NOC Executive Board member (2005 – till now). For distinquished  national and internatonal contribution in development of International Olympic Movement, educaton and sports science he is decorated with several presigious titles and awards among which: Olympic Order of International Olympic Committee (2001), an order “Sign of Honour” (1982), etc. Dr. Platonov was a President (2001-2005), Honorary President (2005 - up now) of International Association of Higher Educational Establishments for Physical Education and Sport of the countries from Eastern Europe and Central Asia. He is Honoris Causa of more than 20 international universities all over the world.
